Career development is not a single appointment or a last-semester task. It is an ongoing process that helps students:

  • Career Coaching: 10–15 minute drop-ins or 30–60 minute scheduled appointments for personalized guidance.

  • Career Assessments: Explore majors and career paths with guided assessment tools.

  • Document Reviews: Feedback on resumes, cover letters, personal statements, and more.

  • Interview Preparation: Mock interviews tailored to specific positions and career goals.

  • Job & Internship Search Support: Strategies and resources to secure part-time, full-time, or internship opportunities.

  • Workshops & Events: Sessions on resumes, interviewing, networking, and career planning.

Work-Based Learning

Work-based learning allows students to apply classroom learning in professional settings. Opportunities may include internships, experiential learning, community-based projects, or employer-connected experiences. Availability varies by program and term.

    Meet students on campus through recruiting tables or on-site interviews

    Share opportunities year-round via Handshake, our career platform for connecting students to employers.
     

  • Internship Partnerships
    Collaborate with the College to develop meaningful work-based learning experiences.
     

  • Classroom & Program Engagement
    Participate as a guest speaker, offer site visits, or contribute to career panels and skill-building workshops.

Southern Union students now use Handshake, the leading career platform for college recruiting. Handshake gives employers direct access to our students for internships, part-time roles, and full-time opportunities.

Through Handshake, employers can:

  • Register for career fairs and campus recruiting events

  • Review student applicants and manage candidates in one system
