Transient Students

If you are enrolled at another post-secondary institution and are interested in earning credit for transfer back to that college or university, you may be interested in enrolling as a transient student at Southern Union. Transient students must submit an application for general admission and an official transient form from your current college/university which certifies that the credit earned at Southern Union will be accepted as part of your academic program. You are not required to submit transcripts of previously earned credits from other post-secondary institutions. However, your transient letter of permission from your current college must be submitted to the Admissions office before registration. Once your application to Southern Union and official transient form has been received by the Admissions office, you will be granted access to register online for your approved courses.

If you have taken a transient class with Southern Union before, you are allowed to register with the returning students starting Wednesday, April 8th. If you have not taken classes at SU before, you will be registering with the new students. All transient students are allowed to register online only for the classes listed on their transient form. If you have questions, you are welcome to contact an advisor or set up a video meeting with an advisor, as well. Details on how to schedule an advising session can be found at the following link: Schedule a Remote Advising Session.

New Students:

Our advisors are available to assist you with registration, and we look forward to you being a student at Southern Union State Community College! In order to register for classes, you must have already been admitted to Southern Union. There are two options for how you can request assistance with registration, and you only need to select one of the options.

Option 1: Video Call with an Advisor

Registration video appointments will be conducted through Google Meet, and they will be available on May 11th, 12th, and 13th or until the appointments have filled.

We recommend that you use a laptop or desktop to make the advising session easier. You must have access to a webcam and microphone to be able to utilize the Google Meet service.

To comply with FERPA and verify your identity, you will also be required to show a form of valid government issued photo ID before beginning a remote advising session. Schedule a video chat session directly by completing the following form: New Student Video Call Request Form. Once the form is completed, a Southern Union advisor will be assigned to your session and contact you at the email provided with more information.

Option 2: Request an Email or Phone Call and Provide Preferences for your Schedule

Complete the New Student Advising and Registration Form to list your preferences for classes and when you would like to take them. Advisors will be contacting students who complete this form from April 15th through May 14th. While your preferences will be taken into consideration, actual schedules will be based on course availability.

Once the form is completed, an advisor will look over it and contact you with any additional questions, to verify your schedule, and to verify your identity before a schedule can be finalized. The summer schedule and class availability may be previewed here: Summer 2020 Class Availability.

All New Students: Provide the following to the Southern Union Records Office (P.O. Box 1000, Wadley, AL, 36276) before your video meeting or speaking with an advisor:

  • Official high school transcript indicating graduation date
  • OR:
  • Official GED scores
  • Official ACT or SAT scores
  • Official college transcripts if dual/accelerated college credit was earned in high school or at a college previously attended

**The information above is needed to help place you in English and math courses. For more information on how placement is determined, please visit the following link: Course Placement for New Students

Financial Aid Information

Please be mindful that no form of financial aid will be available in your MYSUSCC portal until 10 days prior to the first day of class. Your schedule will be held until that time. After registering for your desired courses, you may be asked for payment. Simply log out of the portal and the available aid will automatically be applied on March 8th. It is very important that you take care of any fees that are not covered by your financial aid prior to March 14th to secure your schedule for the summer term. An example would be proctor fees that are not covered by institutional scholarships such as the presidential scholarship or testing fees that are not covered by technical scholarships. Also, keep in mind that if you qualify for the additional Pell Grant for Summer term, you must register for at least 6 credit hours to qualify for the award. If you have questions, email financialaid@suscc.edu.
