Mac Matthews - Women's Head Soccer Coach
Mac Matthews has been coaching soccer since graduating from Samford University in 1987 where he played both soccer and volleyball and was on both athletic and academic scholarship. He has coached at the Club, High School, and Collegiate level, including building the Auburn High School women’s soccer program from 2002-2013. He has coached multiple players who have gone on to play collegiately, including at Auburn University, Ole Miss, Clemson University, the University of West Alabama, the University of Mobile, the University of North Alabama, and Samford University.
From 2013-2023 Matthews coached with Auburn Thunder Soccer Club, coaching all age levels of boys/girls while also serving as the club’s Technical Director. Since 2014 he has also worked for ESPN/SEC Network as a Color Analyst, providing television commentary for many of Auburn University’s Women’s Soccer home games.
Matthews has a B.A. from Samford University, a M.Ed. from Auburn University, a USSF C License, the NSCAA/United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma, and several goalkeeping diplomas.
