| This year marks the 78th year that Southern
Union State Community College (SU) has graduated students from the
college. The SU Alumni Association is proud of the college's continued
growth and has planned this year's Alumni Celebration and Banquet
to be held on Friday, August 3, on the Wadley
Campus. This year's Celebration will "spotlight" current
and former students and coaches who have been a part of the college's
basketball program. The campus will be open all day. For the convenience
of those who wish to tour the campus, college representatives will
be available as guides. |

| According to SU Alumni Association President
Shondae Brown of Woodland, "This year's alumni event will be
the perfect opportunity for visitors to see the new state-of-the-art
facilities now on campus. The Sports Arena is a beautiful facility
and the brand new Science and Technology Center is going to add so
much to the Wadley Campus." |
| An alumni reception will be held from
5 to 6 p.m. in the Student Center. The highlight of the evening, an
alumni basketball game, is scheduled for 6 p.m. SU athletic director
and head men's basketball coach Ron Radford is working with Brown
to coordinate this exhibition game. Radford says, "We invite
all former basketball players, men and women, to showcase their talents
against the current SU basketball teams. We expect this game will
provide a lot of fun and enjoyment for players and spectators!" |
| The exhibition game will consist of a
period of men's play and a period of women's play. Any former basketball
player interested in participating in the alumni game should contact
SU's athletic department at (256) 395-2211 extension 5163 by July
27. |
| The game will be followed by the alumni
dinner which will begin at 6:45 p.m. in the Dining Hall. The cost
of the dinner is $9 per person. To reserve a place at the dinner,
contact Jane Phillips at (256) 395-2211 extension 5102 no later than
July 31. |
Southern Union President Dr. Roy W. Johnson
comments, "Our annual alumni banquet is an excellent opportunity
for old friends to reminisce about their days at Southern Union. The
college continues to grow and it takes the support of everyone, including
our alumni, to build a better institution for our future students."
