Southern Union's priority deadline is April 1
for consideration for most aid programs other than scholarships
and Federal Stafford Loans. Southern Union Scholarship applications
are due March 1. Pell Grants will be awarded based on established
criteria.. Applications received after the priority date will
be considered in the order of date received depending on the availability
of funds.
Applications are considered to be complete only
when all forms or data needed to determine eligibility are received.
If you wish to be considered for federal aid programs, including
grants, work, or loans and many scholarships, you must complete
the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. There are three
ways to apply:
1. FAFSA on the web www.fafsa.ed.gov
(3-4 weeks processing time)
2. Renewal FAFSA. These applications are mailed
by the Federal Processing Center to students who have previously
applied for aid beginning in January. If you receive the Renewal
FAFSA and do not wish to file on the Web, you may complete this
application. (4-6 weeks processing time).
3. Paper FAFSA. Complete and mail the application
to the processing center. If you need assistance contact the
Financial Aid Office. (4-6 weeks processing time)
Southern Union's Title IV Code is 001040.
After submitting the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA), the federal processor will send a Student
Aid Report (SAR). Check the SAR for accuracy, if necessary, make
corrections on the SAR, get appropriate signatures and send to
the Financial Aid Office and we will make the corrections for
you electronically. If there are no corrections and Southern Union
has been listed to receive your information, retain the SAR for
your records.
Once Southern Union receives your SAR data, your
file will be processed and an award letter will be mailed to you
beginning in May of each year. If you do not receive an award
letter at the expected time, please call the Financial Aid Office.
