To New Adult Immigrants in Alabama:
This is an open letter to
all new adult immigrants in our state to extend to you the services
of Alabama Department of Post secondary Education. Our services
range from the basics of learning English to earning an associate
degree at one of our local community colleges. Short-term training
in areas such as auto mechanics is also available through our
Skills Training Division at each college. Admission to Skills
Training Division does not require a high school diploma or GED.
Outreach to the immigrant population is one way that we are attempting
to deliver the message about available services at the community
colleges throughout Alabama. An outreach effort through adult education
is currently in place for our immigrant population. Six bi-lingual
outreach persons are located at community colleges in the state
where immigrant population is the most concentrated. The project
is designed for outreach through cultural awareness workshops in
local communities; media (radio, television and newspapers); interaction
with the Hispanic coalitions throughout the state; promotion of
post secondary education services; and marketing FREE ESL classes
through adult education.
Please contact any of the following bi-lingual persons to assist
you with your educational needs. They work with the adult education
program and will be happy to assist you in locating ESL classes
or other services through the community colleges.
Sincerely,
Bradley Byrne, Chancellor |
