“The First Wealth is Health.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Welcome to the Physical Education and Health Education department of Southern Union State Community College. Physical Education and Health education courses provide the student with personal wellness information. Classes are offered throughout the day to help provide students with the opportunity to learn about wellness. Many of these courses are transferable to a four year institution if required in the student's degree plan.

Physical education and health education courses are taught on all three campuses of the College. One hour activity classes such as bowling, personal fitness, aerobics, zumba and weight lifting are offered each semester. The department also offers online classes such as nutrition, fundamentals of fitness, and personal health.

The athletic teams at Southern Union are under the supervision of the Dean of Students while the academic physical education courses are under the direction of the Dean of Health Sciences. Any student may enroll in the physical education courses to satisfy degree requirements or personal interests; however, only members of the athletic teams may register for the varsity physical education courses. The athletics offered at the College are men's and women's basketball, men's baseball, women's softball, men's and women's cross country, women's volleyball, and cheerleading.

Amy Rogers schedules the physical education and health education classes for Opelika and Valley .

Joe Jordan works with Ron Radford, Athletic Director, to schedule classes on the Wadley campus.
