The Therapeutic Massage Certificate Program is designed to prepare individuals to work as massage therapists. Licensed Massage Therapists (LMT) may be self-employed or employed at health clubs, medical clinics, chiropractor offices, athletic departments, spas, salons, and holistic health centers. Upon successful completion of the program, students may seek licensure from the Alabama Board of Massage Therapy or the Georgia Board of Massage Therapy.

The Therapeutic Massage program is an evening program that meets on Southern Union’s Downtown Campus in Opelika. New students may enter the program in fall semester. The program meets three to four evening per week and includes classroom, lab, and clinical sessions.

During clinical sessions on Thursday evenings, the general public may schedule massage sessions with students. These massage sessions are an important experience in the student's learning process. It is important for clients to understand that students are in training and are not licensed therapists.
