What is an online course?

Online courses are college credit courses that students complete using a personal computer with internet access and internet connectivity. Prior to taking online courses, students must have completed the required online orientation and registered one or more online courses. A few days prior to the start of the semester, students will received an email with login information. Online courses start and end within a few days of the regular SUSCC terms.

Students receive and complete the majority of their assignments online. In some cases, students are required to come to campus to test or to complete lab work. Students should login routinely to check for new assignments and lessons.

Instructors and students can communicate online using the e-mail, calendar, discussion, and chat features. SUSCC uses the WebCT online course software to develop, maintain, and monitor their online course offerings (except for real estate courses).

Online courses are not for everyone. Students who depend on weekly classroom contact with their instructor may not enjoy the online format. Success in an online course is often dependent on the self-motivation and organization skills of the online student.
