you must fill out an application and be accepted by
Southern Union. In addition, some courses may require
that you come to campus and take a placement exam.

need some experience navigating and using the Internet.
Important skills include knowing how to download files,
attach document files to e-mail, and use word processing
software. You will be tested for basic skills in the
Online
Orientation.

must be self-motivated, self-directed and well organized
in your approach to study and avoid procrastination.
It is important that you know how to set up your own
study schedule to keep on top of your assignments
so that you do not fall behind. You can find out if
on-line learning is for you by completing the Online
Orientation.

- Does
the college require any pre-enrollment testing of
my abilities before I enroll for an Internet course?
|
--YES.
All students must have completed the Online
Orientation and have been cleared by the Distance
Education Director prior to enrollment in any on-line
course.

- Do I need my
own computer?
|
--NO. Most of the computer
labs on the three SUSCC campuses will be sufficient.
However, you will only be able to work on your course
during times when the labs are open. Just make sure
the computer you use meets the minimum hardware and
software requirements.

- What are the
minimal technical requirements?
|
- Must have Internet access
through a local Internet Service Provider (ISP) -
[or you can use the SUSCC Computer Labs when available]
- Must have a current
E-Mail Address (that you check often)
- Must have Microsoft
Word 6.0 (NOTE: CIS 146 - Must have Microsoft
Office 2000)
- Must have Microsoft
Internet Explorer (Netscape may not work)
- Must have 56k Modem
(or higher speed connection)

- How do I take
my tests on the course content for an on-line course?
|
--How you will be tested depends on which
Internet course you are enrolled. Depending on the subject
matter and the design of the course, instructors may
evaluate your performance based on the assignments and/or
essay papers that you submit online. Some online courses
require that you come to a testing sites on one of the
SUSCC campuses (i.e. - CIS 146 and PHS 111).

- When does the
on-line course begin and end?
|
--All on-line courses start and end according
to the regular SUSCC
Academic Calendar. In most cases, the instructor
will contact you by e-mail prior to the beginning of
your course and provide more information.

- What if I need
to drop an on-line course?
|
--Students must follow
normal SUSCC procedures for dropping courses (See
current SUSCC
Catalog).
