Course Descriptions

  • ON-LINE ORIENTATION* (0 SH) [FREE] -- [Prerequisite for taking on-line courses at SUSCC] -- This orientation process can be completed on-line in 15-30 minutes. The on-line orientation is designed to help students determine if on-line learning is right for them. The on-line orientation provides students with information about minimum technical (computer hardware/software) requirements. Finally, the on-line orientation is set up to check a students ability to create text files, compile e-mail, attach documents, etc. The main purpose of the on-line orientation is to make sure students understand what they can expect and what is expected of them in the on-line classroom environment.   • CIS 146 -- MICROCOMPUTER APPLICATIONS (3 SH) -- PREREQUISITE: As required by program. This course is an introduction to the most common software applications of microcomputers and includes "hands-on" use of microcomputers and some of the major commercial software. These software packages should include typical features of office suites, such as word processing, spreadsheets, database systems, and other features found in current software packages. Upon completion, students will understand common applications and be able to utilize selected features of these packages.

  • ENG 101 -- ENGLISH COMPOSTION I (3 SH) -- PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of ENG 092; or a score of 42 or better on the English section of ASSET; or a score of 20 or better on the ACT (or equivalent SAT score). English Composition I provides instruction and practice in the writing of at least six (6) extended compositions and the development of analytical and critical reading skills and basic reference and documentation skills in the composition process. English Composition I may include instruction and practice in library usage.
  • PHS 111 -- PHYSICAL SCIENCE I (4 SH) -- PREREQUISITE: As required by program. This course provides the non-technical student with an introduction to the basic principles of astronomy, geology, oceanography, and meteorology. ON-CAMPUS laboratory is required.

  • SOC 200 -- INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY (3 SH) -- PREREQUISITE: As required by program. This course is an introduction to the vocabulary, concepts, and theory of sociological perspectives of human behavior.
