The Social Science Department is responsible for the
programs of study that deal with human behavior, history, and social
and political structures. The department offers courses in criminal
justice, ethics, history, political science, psychology, and sociology.
These courses can satisfy Southern Union graduation requirements, and
dependent upon an individual's program of study, can be transferred
to four year colleges and universities.
The faculty in the Social Science Department are experienced,
qualified individuals that focus on student instruction, assistance,
and guidance. Faculty are accessible and responsive to student needs.
The department promotes academic excellence by organizing
teams of scholars and academic tournaments. The Social Science Department
sponsors an annual quiz bowl format tournament for academic scholars
from the area high schools. Southern Union students are eligible to
become members of the College Bowl Team, this group competes in game
show style, question and answer competitions that are held at two-year
colleges throughout the state.
