The Academic Division at Southern Union State Community College offers
courses in the departments of Language/Fine Arts. Mathematics, Social
Sciences, and Sciences. Academic courses are taught at all three Southern
Union Campuses during the mornings, afternoons, and evenings. The division
offers students the opportunity to earn the Associate in Science Degree.
The SUSCC LRCs are also part of the Academic Division.
Since the College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the College's academic
courses, dependent upon an individual's program of study, are transferable
to other colleges and universities. All academic courses are taught
by fully qualified instructors with a low student to teacher ratio.
Through an articulation agreement between Alabama two- and four-year
colleges and universities, two-year college students who complete the
general education core in Areas I - IV of the Associate in Science Degree
plus Area V courses that are appropriate to their major and/or degree
program are guaranteed junior status upon transferring to the upper
division college.
Southern Union is large enough to offer a broad choice of study options,
but small enough to value each student as an individual. Academic standards
are high, but we give you extra help if you need it to reach your goals.
If you are enrolling in an Associate in Science Degree program in the
academic division you should follow the general requirements for admissions
as presented in the Admission Information section of the College's Catalog/Student
Handbook. For additional information contact Southern Union's Dean of
